Christopher R. Foster

Mr. Christopher R. Foster is the Director of Bands at Cary High School in Cary, North Carolina. He is the director of the marching band, 3 concert bands, jazz ensemble, indoor percussion ensemble, indoor marching winds ensemble, indoor color guard, and music appreciation class.  Mr. Foster’s ensembles have received numerous awards and honors regionally, nationally, and internationally. Notable achievements include Bands of America Regional Finals and Class Championships, MSBA Class Championships, OMEA State Finals Superior Ratings, and in 2013, a Bands of America Grand Nationals Championship. 

Mr. Foster received his undergraduate in 1998 at Youngstown State University Dana School of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Education and a major in Trumpet.  In 2012, he received his Masters in Music Education from Kent State University. Mr. Foster has held positions at Bellbrook High School (2008-2019), Warren Local High School (2002-2008), Crestview High School (1998-2002) and a community youth band in Youngstown, Ohio called the Warren Junior Military Band. He was a guest conductor of the 2000 Columbiana All-Star Band, YSU Concert Band, River City Brass Ensemble, and the Lancomb County, PA Honors Band. Mr. Foster was also a member of the Smoot House Jazz Band from Parkersburg, WV. He has performed with world famous artists such as Eddie Daniels, Bobby Shew, Chuck Mangione, and the Air Force Band of Flight.  On May 10, 2000, he received the honorary flag of the United States flown over the United States Capitol Building in his honor for “Inspiring Excellence in the Performing Arts”. Mr. Foster is a member of the North Carolina Band Master’s Association.

He is married to Amy, or "Miss Amy" as the color guard calls her, as she is on staff of the fall marching band colorguard.  Together they have a son, Ryan, who looks up to the entire band family as his older brothers and sisters.  He also has 3 dogs, Bella/Sadie/Tucker, who like to destroy his house when the family is with the band family at rehearsals or competitions.
