Cary Band Curriculum - 4/27/2020


Hey band!  I hope you had a great weekend.  It’s sad to hear that the governor cancelled all in-person instruction for the rest of the school year, but understandable.  I will of course try my best to keep you informed on how all of these changes will affect our Cary Band.  Here’s some quick bullet points to keep your radar on.

  • Listening assignment - due this Friday.  

  • Concert Bands for 2020/2021 school year - I will be sending an audition tune for all instruments soon, due date TBD.  This is not a requirement for ensemble placement, but can help me determine what group would fit with your current skill set and potential for growth.  Everyone will have a spot, and both groups will be playing harder selections that last year.  

  • ALL 9th grade students - Concert Band - Grade III/IV

  • 10th, 11th, 12th grade students - Symphony Band - Grade IV/V literature

  • 10th, 11th, 12th grade students - Wind Ensemble - Grade V/VI literature

  • Marching Band - I hope that you will all take the jump into next year with joining the biggest, funnest, and most visible aspect of the school, the Cary Marching Band.  Go to our website, www.caryband.org, and click on the Marching Band tab.

  • Video assignment watching for Monday - “If you can, you must”.  It’s a great reminder about being a good human. http://joinsll.com/leadership-university-unit-8-if-you-can-you-must/

  • Google Form - none for today.  I’d like for the leadership potential students to do the listening assignment like everyone else is doing.  You might be feeling overwhelmed by other teacher’s assignments.  I don’t want you to be overwhelmed in my class.

  • Tuesday Google Meet - @ 2:00pm.  https://meet.google.com/zbd-nyqf-obr?pli=1&authuser=0  My goal is to give you lots of fun resources to explore when you are at home!  Don’t miss it!

  • Thursday Google Meet - @ 2:00pm. https://meet.google.com/zbd-nyqf-obr?pli=1&authuser=0  Review what the video assignments have been teaching us.  Bring your own questions to the table.  Don’t forget that I’d like to have your 20 second videos in my hands soon.  I’m making the welcome video for 8th graders this week.  During this google time, I will begin talking/showing you the process we will use for drum major selections.
