KOKA BOOTH AMPHITHEATRE

Cary’s Koka Booth Amphitheatre hosts a wide variety of events from concerts, movies and food festivals, to the annual Chinese Lantern Festival.

What events are available to work?

A list of expected events at Koka Booth Amphitheatre can be found here. This list will be updated throughout the year. Cary Band usually works most of the Koka Booth events.

What will I do?

At Koka Booth, you will primarily be selling concessions, including alcohol, from the primary concession venue, The Crescent Deck. For large events, Cary Band will also be staffing the Service Bar, which fulfills and delivers beverages to those in reserved seating. In addition, most large events include food runners, who deliver food items to customers in reserved seating.

How old must I be to work at Koka Booth?

You must be 18 years or older to work most events at Koka Booth. For large events, students 16 years or older can volunteer as food runners.  For many events, we can staff one 16 year old when there are 6 or more staff.

Do I need special training?

No special training is required. You will be provided the information you need when you arrive for your shift.

What should I wear?

While volunteering at Koka Booth, you should wear khaki pants/shorts (or capris), CHS chaperone attire (polo shirt or sweatshirt, depending on the weather), CHS hat or visor, and comfortable, closed-toe shoes.

How long is a typical shift?

It will depend on the event, but the typical shift is 4-5 hours.

How much can I earn?

You will earn $9.00 per hour toward your personal band assessment. Leads earn $11.00 per hour due to their additional responsibilities.

What’s required to be a Lead?

As a lead, you will need to be able to arrive 30 minutes earlier than the other workers and have worked (and been trained) at previous events. Additionally, you will be responsible for reconciling sales and tips at the end of the night (which may require you to stay longer than other workers) – and submitting the appropriate money and documentation to the Ways and Means Lead and Treasurers after the event.

How do I sign up?

To sign up for events at Koka Booth, go to the Cary Band Venue Signups calendar

Once I’ve Signed Up, Now What?

Upon signup, and two days prior to the event, you will be notified of the expected report time.  Usually, workers must arrive 30-60 minutes before the gates open. Check the signup information for details about your event. For large events, an initial and ending inventory may be required. In all cases, there will be a Cary Band lead that will help you know what to do once you arrive.

Where Do I Park?

Unless notified otherwise, drive to the venue and follow signs for Employee Parking.

What if I need to cancel or change my signup?

If you need to cancel, you must provide 24 hours notice prior to the event. If it is not possible to provide 24 hours notice, please email ways_and_means@caryband.org and do your best to find your replacement. Remember that others will be expecting you to show up if you’ve signed up.  Cary Band can be financially penalized if the required number of workers are not provided – and it makes the work for those who do show up that much more difficult. Please don’t let your fellow Cary Band parents down.
