Holiday Gift Wrap

When gift wrap is active, it will be found on the on-line volunteer sign-up pages.

Gift Wrap Guidelines

Prior to gift wrapping at Cary Towne Center (and as applicable at other gift wrap locations) for the Band Boosters, you are required to read and agree to these guidelines. You will be expected to adhere to these guidelines. Please review them carefully prior to signing up for gift wrap.

DRESS CODE

While at gift wrap, you are on display as a representative of Cary High School Marching Band and Cary Towne Center. Dress for gift wrap is "business casual". The following apparel is not acceptable:

  • Jeans
  • Tennis shoes
  • Shorts
  • Halter tops
  • Spaghetti strap tops
  • Pajamas or sloppy pants
  • Hats

If you arrive at gift wrap dressed inappropriately, you will be asked to leave and will receive no credit for working.

CONDUCT CODE

Please treat this as a job. We are not here to play. We are here to work. Don't give the impression of idleness even during down times. Stay alert and ready to wrap.

No cell phones may be used in the gift-wrap booth. Please turn your phone (or your ringer) off while you are in the booth. If you MUST use your phone, sign out and leave the booth!!!!

Do not eat in the booth. Drinks UNDER the counter are fine. If you are working a double shift, please sign out if you need to go eat.

Do not let friends and neighbors hang around the booth. Non-working people are a distraction to workers and customers. If you are in the band and are not scheduled to work, don't hang around! You will be asked to leave.

Do not lay or sit on counters.

Do not waste gift-wrap material by creating "works of art" during down time. Even if you are using scraps, it gives the appearance that we are wasting supplies.

Please keep the gift wrap area clean! Take time to bag the trash from your shift before you leave so the next shift can keep working.

OTHER SHIFT-RELATED GUIDELINES

Each shift will have a "Shift Leader". A Shift Leader must be an adult 21 years or older who will assure that the shift runs smoothly. If you are not willing to perform the duties below, do not sign up for the Shift Leader position. Shift Leaders will be responsible for:

  • Enforcing procedures and guidelines in general.
  • Enforcing dress and conduct codes by asking offenders to leave, if necessary.
  • Protect other workers from irate customers (this seldom happens). Try to defuse the situation. If the customer will not be placated, send them to Customer Service.
  • Remaining until the next Shift Leader arrives.
  • Inventorying supplies.
  • Closing off the line a few minutes early (about 10 minutes) so that the last shift can finish up on time.  If there is a line, put the "Enter" sign behind the last customer in line and tell them that they are the last customer.  If necessary, stand at the end of the line behind the last customer.
  • Ensuring that the last shift crew cleans up the booth and stores supplies (tape dispensers, bows, etc.) under the counter and that trash is bagged and set outside the booth.

You must be 14 years or older to gift wrap.

If you are coming in to work, please REPLACE people who are leaving rather than starting a new station. This allows people to get off their shift gracefully without making customers angry.

Customers must wait with their packages while they are being wrapped.  Under no circumstances are items to be left under our care while the customer leaves for any length of time!

We have NO boxes.  Each store is responsible for supplying boxes for their customers.  We can wrap items without a box if the customer wishes.

We are not allowed to give out paper, bows or other supplies for wrapping at home. Customers must wait in line for us to wrap their gifts.

Please do not refer customers to another mall.

Do not tape directly on the box you are wrapping. Some boxes contain collector's items that lose their value if you disfigure the outside packaging. Be safe. Don't use tape on the box.

Any irate customers should be directed to the Shift Leader and then to Customer Service in the center of the mall.  Customer Service will help them contact mall management with any issue they may have.  We are not expected to take grief from customers.  HOWEVER, PLEASE BE POLITE AT ALL TIMES.

BOOKKEEPING-RELATED GUIDELINES

Don't forget to sign in and out of the Cary Band Sign In book.  This is how we keep track of hours worked for each band student.  If you don't sign in, we don't know to give you credit.

If you are not on the schedule, you WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT for hours worked UNLESS you are filling in for someone.

No credit will be given for time worked over the scheduled shift unless you are filling in for someone who is late for the next shift. If you are the person who is late, please sign in at the actual time you arrived so that the person who is filling in for you will receive credit for that time.
