CARY BAND DAY 2001The sound of buses and marching bands has been gone for a week now, and the banners are down. We've completed another successful Cary Band Day -- our 43rd to be exact. Without the many, many people who helped, we could never have had the successful day that we did. I'm not talking about success in terms of money, but in terms of working together as a team. As many of you found, it takes hundreds of people -- band parents, band students, alumni students and parents, Cary High School and staff, the community, and friends and relatives to bring off such a successful day. Many of you worked in many different capacities that day and that’s what it takes to have a Band Day that runs as smoothly as ours did. We haven’t hosted 42 bands in many years and each of you can be proud of yourselves that we were able to handle that many bands and at the most, be behind only 10 minutes. Dealing with the logistics of 4,000 band students, plus all the other people that attended Cary Band Day on November 3 was not a small feat. I want to thank each of you for giving of yourselves so unselfishly that day. To each of you who had a part, and there were many -- starting with the mailing of the Cary Band Day postcards in the spring; mailing the registration forms in August; logging in the registration checks; selling ads, trophies, floats and getting entrants involved in our parade; and then the actual week of Band Day. Band Day workers included those who hosted a band; cooked or worked in the concession stand, bar-b-que tent, or bake sale; those selling our souvenirs; lining the field; lining up the bands; getting the bands and equipment on and off the field on time; working with the judges; providing a hospitality room for the Band Directors to unwind a little; and putting up and taking down the banners. The many other jobs that many of you did because you saw a need and no one seemed to notice -- thanks to each of you. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT OF CARY BAND DAY. It's people like yourselves that have made our tradition continue to become the competition to attend each year. Sandra Williams 43rd Chair of Cary Band Day
