HOW THE BANDS ARE JUDGED
(Parade and Field Show)
1. All Parade bands are judged by three Parade Judges to determine final
Parade Band placement.
2. All Field Show Bands are judged by seven Field Show Judges
to determine final Field Show Band placement.
3. Each band is evaluated on musical execution, marching, and
maneuvering execution, general effects visual, and general effects musical
analysis.
4. Music Execution is 25% of the total score and is based
on content evaluation, quality of sound, overall musical performance, and
clarity of all parts and sections.
5. Marching & Maneuvering Execution is worth 25%. It is
evaluated on the accuracy, exposure to error, poise, and execution of
fundamentals and forms.
6. General Effect Visual is worth 20%. It is evaluated on visual artistry,
showmanship, and coordination.
7. General Effects Musical is worth 20%. It is evaluated on musicality,
showmanship, and coordination.
8. Percussion Ensemble score will count 5% toward the overall band score.
9. Visual Ensemble score will count 5% toward the overall band score.
10. Drum Major/s will be scored separately, and score will not count toward
overall score.
11. The "Field Show Champion" Trophy will be awarded for the
highest field show score, regardless of class.
12. The "Grand Sweepstakes" Trophy will be awarded
for the highest combined parade and field show scores, regardless of class
13. The "Heart of Cary" Parade Trophy is judged by
a panel of Band Day Officials who are scattered throughout the parade route.
14. The "Joey Lewis Best Drumline of the Day" is
given to the Drumline with the highest field show score, regardless of class.
